Controls Engineer Intern

At AST, the engineering team is present through the lifespan of a machine.  

From initial concept, detailed design, assembly, programming, and testing, the process happens onsite with engineering involvement throughout.  

AST offers the engineering dream of bringing a machine to life, watching it function, and having hands-on troubleshooting, all in-house. 

Compensation range for onsite WA applicants is $18 -$25 an hour. All applicants are welcome to apply.   

Responsibilities: 

  • Embrace AST's Process of Continuous Improvement across the organization. 

  • Design control systems for simple automation, including robotics, vision, PLC, HMI, and other peripheral and modular codes. 

  • Assist Engineers with drafting operations and maintenance manuals in accordance with the designs and equipment. 

  • Work with engineering on assignments with broad product, technology investment and integration, customer, and strategic impacts.  

  • Participate in the installation/startup/testing of machinery at AST. 

  • Perform machine testing, experiments, and debug activities to ensure designs reliably meet the project requirements. 

  • Assist with factory acceptance testing with documented results.

  • A strategic thinker who enjoys innovation and problem solving and goes above and beyond to identify root causes.  

  • Self-motivated, energetic, and disciplined, with a keen attention to detail. 

  • Character that complements AST's long-standing culture of high integrity throughout all areas of internal and external business activity. 

  • Pursuing bachelor’s degree in an Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronics engineering curriculum. 

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. 

  • Must be willing to take and successfully pass a drug test.
