Compensation for onsite WA applicants is $106,000-$130,000 annually. All applicants are welcome to apply.

Job Description:

The Manufacturing Engineer 3 will support AST by providing manufacturing technical leadership that includes manufacturing engineering, plant engineering, and industrial engineering. The primary responsibilities of this position include developing and owning process/material flow in our warehouse and assembly areas as well as being the primary contact for technical assembly questions. The role will develop scalable manufacturing processes and ensure manufacturing readiness for new product launches.

Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Lead manufacturing technical support activities to continuously upgrade and improve manufacturing technologies, quality of production, as well as any new processes, technologies, and longer-term manufacturing strategies.
  • Define and design tooling standards to support quality production by our contractors and service providers.
  • Provide engineering support for manufacturing operations, troubleshooting production issues, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Participate in the product design review process and provide technical input to Design Engineers.
  • Lead process design activities and ensure new processes conform to AST best practices.
  • Ensure new product designs incorporate established Design For Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) standards prior to release.
  • Design/implement assembly and test machines.
  • Ensure assembly jigs and tools meet AST standards.
  • Work closely with design and production leaders to improve manufacturing efficiency, manufacturing effectiveness, and reduce production costs.
  • Define part/process routing strategy.
  • Create standard work and work instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Core Competencies, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
  • 7+ years of experience working as a manufacturing engineer.
  • Proficiency with 3-D solid modeling software such as: Inventor and AutoCAD for designing and modeling manufacturing processes and products.
  • Highly skilled with reviewing engineering drawings for completeness and defining GD&T callouts.
  • Familiar with CNC processes and requirements.
  • Proficient with computer software such as: MS Office, ERP Systems, AutoCAD, Solid Modeling (e.g., Inventor, Solid Works, ProE), FEA, and motion analysis/simulations.
  • Highly skilled with various manufacturing processes such as: machining, assembly, material processing, electropolish, passivation, and plastics.
  • Lead the identification and implementation of improvements to manufacturing processes using methodologies such as lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process optimization techniques.
  • Skilled with planning and organizing manufacturing projects and tracking progress.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced culture.
  • Self-driven with a drive to take initiative and work autonomously to achieve KPI’s.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians in process development and best practices.
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take and successfully pass a drug test.
